Chameleons created 14 collaborative artworks & 18 individual artworks. All artworks measure 12x12x1.5, and were created in 2023.
“We have now arrived at a vantage point far enough from our origin to reflect upon the journey that brought us here. Collectively, the Chameleons are on a journey – growing, experimenting, and building structures. Individually, we have been on a journey our whole lives. Metaphysically, we are building upon what we have learned. We have strengthened ourselves into a strong group of eleven members, sharpening our understanding through combined perspectives.”

Most humans perceive the world as the light bouncing off objects and catch that light in these amazing organs called “eyes.” Much of the light we take into our eyes comes from across the universe, either from the closest star, bouncing off our largest satellite, or from light years away. Though we often take it for granted, this piece is a mediation on the appreciation of the light that makes our art possible.

In the myths of ancient history, humans were intimately connected to the earth’s surface and obsessively studying the sky. Grounded within our own atmosphere, we study the nature of our connection to everything by looking out. This artwork was inspired by the relationships ancient and modern humans have to earth’s surface and the celestial bodies we study to make sense of our unique position within the universe.

The original idea for this image was: Your mother, back in the day, about ten months before your birth. What was she doing day to day then? What kind of music did she listen to? What did she eat? Who did she hang around with? And how did all that contribute to the origin of YOU? Of course our mothers all look a little different but I chose an image that looked kind of like my mother in the 1970s and went from there. I’m hoping this will trigger viewers to remember and reflect on their own mothers/origins.

Where was the wheel invented? Not in one place, but in many. We can share things across time, space, pixels, and algorithms. We are connected in more ways than can be easily explained.

Inspired by the stoned ape theory, this artwork explores the interconnectedness of mycelium, humans as we are today, and what we may have been hundreds of thousands of years ago. What did we come from? A delectable mystery that so many try to explain. I enjoy the theory that it was an individual’s connection with mushrooms, and their natural surroundings, starting a chain reaction of unimaginable proportions. Expanding consciousness beyond the walls of our skull and learning from the natural world around us, we too can explore mysteries that change the future of all humankind.

This piece is about my personal origin story as an artist. I used layers in this piece as a metaphor for time. We are the sum of our experiences. Each layer is a different experience. This artwork documents my struggles as a student with dyslexia and how I came to find peace in my neurodivergence.

This work looks at all living things from a scientific lens, attempting to make sense of the origin and connections between living organisms. Through this painting and research process, the artist learned many new concepts such as how mushrooms branched off from animals after plants and that there are many more microscopic and bacterial branches which should be included in a correct tree of all living things.

Twenty years ago, a comic nerd drew a simple pear with shoes and white gloves. Since then, he has traveled back in time, across several continents, established monopolies, and into space. Fred the Pear has been a constant companion and used as a diary mate, a joke teller, a researcher, and even a propagandist. As Walt Whitman would say, “ I am large, I contain multitudes.” The very first illustration of Fred is preserved in this piece.

When I spend time in nature, enjoying the wonder of each present moment is easier than usual. The past and the future slip away if only for an instant. This body of work is about those moments when I am able to be present.

The day slowly fades and becomes the evening, bathing the world in colors that bring about a sense of awe. Orange dances with purple and the mountains become even more majestic. The evening is here and the world sighs.

The title, Origins of Peace in Times of Conflict, comments on the duality of this world. Before peace, there is conflict. As my family drove to a beach in Florida in March of 2022, my Ukrainian foster brother hid in his hallway fearing for his life. I felt so conflicted because we were literally in the Florida sun and he was enduring the stress of air raid sirens and all that goes with being in a country at war. I pray for peace.

Panspermia is a theory that extraterrestrial life is responsible for the origin of humans. In this narrative variation, I depict the point where ETs plant their seeds during the evolution of life on an Earth-like planet. The deliberate insertion of alien DNA wildly changes the evolution trajectory in this fantastical series.

A somewhat autobiographical scene, the end of land signals the beginning of water – a fresh start. This precipice of transformation shows my desires and dreams as I began art college in Maine in 1995.
